| Brief History -
Hello! I’m Katherine Whyte and I’ve been
playing the piano for quite a while now. I graduated from the Australian
Institute of Music with a Bachelor of Music, majoring in contemporary
piano and vocals. I also perform in various folk bands and with singer
song-writers supporting them on piano, as well as my own original material
which my band and I will start performing later in the year. I really
enjoy passing on my love of music and helping students to reach their
goals. I also teach grades for those who want to do exams, going through
AMEB, I can take you through to 8th grade for either the traditional piano
or piano for leisure. If you would like to learn jazz or any of the other
contemporary styles of music, we can pick songs you want to do while building
a solid understanding of the genre you are working in.

Teaching
Philosophy -
I believe that anyone can learn to play music and whatever
your motivation or goal is, it can be achieved. When I teach I try to
make it as fun for the student as possible and for most people this means
making regular progress, which is difficult without regular practice!
So of course, practicing is the key to success and gaining that sense
of achievement! I’m happy to teach whatever you would like to learn
as well as incorporating technique and theory. |
My Musical Interests -
My musical interests cover a wide palette of influences
with a leaning towards folk but also include Classical composers such
as Bach, Mozart and Chopin. Jazz musicians like Herbie Hancock, Miles
Davis, Chick Corea, Ray Charles and Diana Krall. Also Stevie Wonder, Michael
Jackson, Alicia Keys, Ben Folds and The Beatles.
Styles Of Music Taught -
I have performed and taught in many different styles
including Folk, Classical, Jazz, Blues, Latin, Pop, Soul, Funk, R&B
and Rock! |
