| Brief History -
Hello. My name is Hamish Carrington and I have been playing
drums and percussion for over 10 years. My musical journey began in New
Zealand where I started out as a more formally trained musician. I spent
5 years playing in my high school Concert and Stage Bands as well as their
annual musicals, performed nationally with the Royal New Zealand Air Force
Base Ohakea Band for 2 years, regularly played with my regions Jazz Band
and played numerous musicals as resident drummer for my regions operatic
society. In 2009 I moved to Sydney where I completed a Bachelor of Music
at The Australia Institute of Music majoring in Drums. Since living in
Sydney I am performing with a host of cover bands as well as running my
own corporate live music company, GrooveEnterprises. I am recording with
a handful of Australian artists and currently working my own Nu-Jazz/Funk
album. |

My Musical Interests -
My musical interests span across a broad
range of musical styles and drummers. Big names such as: Chad Smith
(Red Hot Chili Peppers), Thomas Pridgen (The Mars Volta) Dave Weckl
(Chick Corea), Vinnie Colaiuta (Chick Corea), David Garibaldi (Tower
of Power), to smaller independent drummers like: David Chiverton, Andrew
Fisenden, Chris Coleman, Teddy Campbell.

Teaching
Philosophy -
My teaching philosophy consists of methods and practices
I have found effective in my own development as a drummer and musician.
No two students learn and absorb information in the same way so it is
important to adjust teaching styles and material to suit each individual.
I believe it is important maintain a certain level of balance, drive and
inspiration that makes learning the drums fun while still seeing the importance
of formalities such as technique, rudiments and the ability to read drum
notation. I draw upon an extensive library of books, CDs, DVDs and my
own handouts to ensure every student achieves to their highest potential.
